How to get Nie's Number UK

According to Spanish law, a Nie number UK is necessary to open a bank account, arrange a loan or mortgage, get a job, receive social assistance or unemployment benefits, register with social services, get a driver's license, or inherit property. The NIE number is a tax identification number, just like the NI National Insurance number in the UK and the NIF Numero de Identificación Fiscal for Spanish citizens. NIE numbers are issued by the National Police of Spain, the same agency that creates Spanish passports and ID cards.

How to make an NIE number request

You can personally apply for an NIE number at the Spanish Consulate and assemble the necessary documents, including two copies of the completed NIE application form. The consulate agent will authenticate your signature with a stamp along with the relevant fee and will require you to sign the document there rather than previously. We advise you to check the criteria with the consulate ahead of time. The application will be sent to Spain by the Consulate as a messenger, and you will need to wait until the Spanish government returns it to you.

You can also apply in person for an NIE number when you visit the National Police station in Spain with the necessary paperwork and the needed fee. However, you can utilize a Power of Attorney to request an NIE number if you need help. If you need to apply for your NIE number from England, there is a very simple form, which can make a Power of Attorney that you must sign in front of a local notary. After the paperwork has been signed and legalized, we will provide it to the agent in Spain. Unless otherwise specified, the agent will return the original NIE document to you and a scanned copy to us within ten days of receipt.
